Richard Joseph Gannon (born December 20, 1965 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a previous American football quarterback, who achieved virtually all of his profits using a Oakland Raiders in the National Football League.
Biography
He played for the University of Delaware and was selected in the 4th circular (98th overall) of the 1987 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, who immediately traded him to the Minnesota Vikings. Fallowing ii years of swimming meagerly, Gannon became a Vikings starting quarterback within 1990, displacing incumbent Wade Wilson.
Inside 1993 he was traded to the abysmal Washington Redskins. Around 1995 he was dealt to the Kansas City Chiefs. For 2 years he served as a backup to Steve Bono. Around 1997 a quarterback controversy was created whenever a Gannon-led Chiefs excelled in the absence of the wounded Elvis Grbac. In the playoffs, coach Marty Schottenheimer elected to play Grbac instead of Gannon. A Chiefs wasted 14-10, though Grbac didn't play badly. Them ended higher splitting snaps within 1998, after Grbac was hurt within Week One.
Within February 1999 he was signed as a free professional per Raiders. He excelled within Jon Gruden's "dink and dunk" offense & was voted to the Pro Bowl in his 1st month as a Raider, a first of quadruplet straight selections. Within 2000 and 2001, he won the Pro Bowl MVP award. Gannon won a NFL Most Valuable Player Award after a record-setting 2002 season, which helped the Raiders advance to Extr Bowl XXXVII. He led the league within tries sustaining 618, & completions, by owning a record 418.
In the Super Bowl, Gannon threw the Very Bowl record Quintuplet interceptions inside a 48-21 rout per Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
